I LOVED your take on Taylor’s new album! I’ve never read something like that before, but as a musician myself, I really appreciate the things you wrote. It’s incredibly interesting to see the business and industry side of such a creative passion!
Thank you so much for reading and commenting! It's so cool to hear the perspective of a musician. 🥰 I have so much respect for musicians who not only know their craft but get on stage and make music and keep putting themselves out there. It is TOUGH and I really admire it.
Exactly! Imagine if we had to be the same person at 15 that we are in our twenties or especially 30s? I can't imagine growing up in the spotlight and being held to those standards. The other problem is that if she DID churn out the same music as fifteen years ago, people would take issue with that as well.
This is why I love these discussions—people always have completely different reactions to the same piece of art. I liked Lover straight away and it was actually what got me listening after taking an unintentional break for a few years. If I had listened to 1989 and especially Reputation when they came out, would I feel the same about Lover? Who knows. It was such a departure from those two, which I adore! I love when artists take risks like that.
So much of this is down to where you are when something releases and more importantly, who you are. It's so fascinating.
And I'm with you on Evermore. I also haven't listened much to Midnights. I still pay attention when she releases something and I still champion her every chance I get because she's earned that from me. She's built something so incredible that I'll pay attention and respect it, even if I don't feel passionately about it. Which, honestly, I'm not sure I can think of a single artist who I have loved EVERY song on EVERY release!
I am obsessed with all the crime shows and especially those twisty shows that dive into fascinating subcultures like the Twin Flames or LuLaRoe one or even The Program. I hope you like them.
I also LOVE the show Disappeared on Investigate Discovery, especially earlier seasons. For non-documentaries I think Mindhunter is one of my all time favorites. It's chilling, but so well done.
And to conclude this mini-novel of a comment I've made, you're right, we've got this!! Can't wait to continue following along your journey. It definitely helps to know someone else is right there alongside me in it. 🤍
YES! I completely agree. You just can't stay stagnant in this or any creative industry. It's a good argument for branding here too — I may not always love every song or album she puts out, but because of the brand she's built and how that resonates with me, I'll always check it out and respect the choice. I think she's brilliant at that and I also think it comes from a genuine place.
You've convinced me to give Midnights another shot. I'll report back! :)
